@vsbrandao asked how to export only the work area in premiere CS4?

We were forwarded this question via @Adobe and thought it was worth showing.

@vsbrandao wanted to know how to export ONLY the work area that he had defined in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Well @vsbrandao, here’s the answer!

First, you need to define the work area for rendering using the work area bar. You can position the handle along the timeline and resize it by dragging in the edges. Check out this doc page for step-by-step instructions. But I’m sure you already know how it’s done!

Next, you’ll export the video! And better yet, it’s already done for you. You don’t need to tell it to export the working area or a specific range. Check out the screenshot below, you’ll see the export window matches the work area by default.

That’s it!

@dougluberts asks:Anyone have success using Photoshop CS4 for HDR images?

@dougluberts: ASKED “Anyone out there have success using Photoshop CS4 for generating HDR images? I’m thinking of picking up Photomatix Pro, as an alternative.” There are plenty of examples of generating HDR images with Photoshop CS4. This one on Adobe TV is a pretty good one. However Deke McClelland’s DEKEPOD has a wicked Faking HDR video as well. Deke has been a hero of ours for years, and even though he’s faking it, it still makes us feel great!

@ruddyard: asks can you preview a selection crop in Photoshop?

@ruddyard: Asks in PS when using the marquee tool can the non selected areas be blacked out to see what it will look like before you crop? Thats a heck of question, and real noodle scratcher. We immediately thought, well why not use the crop tool?  It does that easily just change the settings in the control strip at top of screen. See pic below.

But we think you may be smart, and have a valid reason for wanting to use a selection. (Not sure what it is but anyway we trust you). So The best way to do this, is to use the Mask Panel. Step 1: make your selection. Step 2: Open the Mask Panel. Step 3: Add Mask. Step 4: Preview agains a black background like shown below. Step 5: Und the previus steps and use Select > Reselect. Step 6: Crop. See Easy… or just use the crop tool. :-)

@lizkuz: Asks: “How do you number pages in InDesign?”

Another great question from Twitter. Nerd boy was busy playing with the Bone tool (in Flash), so Mr. Crayons took on this one by himself. What a champion. RT @lizkuz: Asks: “how do you number pages in indesign? It’s been so long I actually have to google this. sad.” We explained that answer, and then get the follow up question “that works great for numbering pages, but how do you start number pages after the table of contents. ex. page 3 is page 1.” So there was nothing for it we had to do a video. It answers it all. Keep the questions coming.

@foggygolf “How do I make a cool e-brochure…”

@foggygolf Asks: “ebrochure in #flashcs4 how? need more functionality than export to swf from #indesigncs4, need zoom functionality? #help” Ok this is a cool one. First lay the thing out in InDesign and export to XFL just like in the video (thanks Adobe TV). You will however then need to start learning ActionScript 3. There are plenty of resources to do so, some paid some for free. We love Adobe TV but we also love this episode of Creative Sweet TV The presenter is a loser, but we always laugh at him, so its worth a look. Also a great resource is from Lee Brimalow Go To and Learn

@gertjansmits asked a bunch of Q’s about loading a SWF with SWFLoader and casting it to an Interface

@gertjansmits asked a bunch of questions about loading a SWF with SWFLoader then casting it to an Interface and call his functions. He even posted this TwitPic http://twitpic.com/ybaoe to help explain his problem with code.

We would normally consider multiple tweets to explain a question a RULE BREAKER but we though this question needed an answer!

Over at Flex Daddy Andrew Spaulding (@spaulds) has written a post titled “Cast a loaded Flex Application to an Interface”.

Great job @spaulds. How convenient! ;-)

@triciaho asks “Is there a paste into in Illustrator CS4?”

@triciaho asks “this is a super noob qn. in indesign, there’s a “paste into” function, is there something similar in Illy CS4?” Well, this one required a video response, and we think we have come up with a fantastic answer. Of course we did, we are the best there is. Using Illustrator CS4, Masks and Layers and Nerd boy stuns Mr. Crayons when he knows an Illustrator shortcut. Command+7 who would’ve thunk it!

@faldo asks about Premiere’s Playback capabilities.

@faldo Asks “Can Premiere’s monitors all play back simultaneously: eg program, scopes & multicam? (Ill code it if you’ll let me)” and even an offer of some product development… WOW. If we knew anyone at Adobe we would certainly pass that on. Anyway, our legal douches have told us not to speculate on future features, but we happen to know that Adobe have a wicked new playback engine called Mercury in action for a future release. We could explain it, because we have managed to have a good crack at it ourselves, but Dave Helmly has posted got a wacked out, pimped up video on Adobe TV that explains it. Its a shame he uses such lame typography in his video. GO TO DESIGN SCHOOL DAVE!!! Anyway the info is all there and stay tuned I guess… word up dog.
